Three Icons of Stage and Screen Lost to Ovarian Cancer

Updated: Jan 12

FLOWER MEMORIAL

Judy Tenuta (Menopause the Musical), Gilda Radner (The Woman in Red), and Cassandra Harris (For Your Eyes Only) were wonderful comedians and actresses who brought joy to millions of people. Sadly, despite receiving the finest medical care, they died from ovarian cancer in Los Angeles or elsewhere.

Ovarian cancer remains the deadliest gynecologic cancer. The disease also causes much suffering due to metastases (the development of secondary malignant disease at distance from the primary site of cancer), causing bowel obstructions, abdominal pain, vomiting, shortness of breath and other debilitating problems.

Ovarian cancer remains the deadliest gynecologic cancer.

The three main types of Ovarian Cancer are:

  • Epithelial Cancer - this type of ovarian cancer begins from the cells that cover the outside of the ovary

  • Germ Cell Cancer - this type of ovarian cancer begins from the ovarian cells that make the eggs

  • Stromal Cancer - this type of ovarian cancer begins from the cells that hold the ovary together and also make the female hormones

Many factors can increase a woman's risk for developing Ovarian Cancer. Please visit the various educational pages on our website to learn more about Risk Factors, Signs and Symptoms, Screening, and Treatment.

In loving memory of these iconic women....
